I chose a very popular 2015 “Can’t Feel My Face” song by The Weeknd. As I was looking for song lyrics that had more than one meaning. Most people don’t realize what is trying to be said, I thought this song was perfect. Most people think this song is referring to a bad relationship with a woman because of the lyrics that include “she’ll” and “girl”. Although you create a strong argument that it is about a relationship, There are also words like “numb” and “death of me”. These terms could also be referring to substance abuse. Substance abuse is a huge problem in our society and it’s frequently ignored.
When I was creating this poem I thought of blacking out most of the words and just leaving the words that can be interpreted in other ways to still give clarity to the lyrics. I thought of this idea because of the poems found in Zong!. They both only give you limited information but still leave enough to come up with your own interpretations and meanings.

Hi Logan, I really love your poem and the new take on such a popular song. I think it shows the harsh realities of substance abuse that are often pushed aside in society. I also like that you used a black marker to show the darkness of it all and illuminate the jarring truths. I think the quotes in the last stanza can be a substance abuser’s dialogue with someone and they’re trying to belittle the situation to not worry their loved ones. I think this can also represent the shame and guilt involved. I really love what you did with the song, great job!!
I have to comment on this because The Weeknd is my favorite artist of all time. I really like your interpretation of the song and I agree with the deeper meaning that underlies. I really liked the way you formed this found poem by blacking out words.
